Fairy Who?
About
Fairy Positron Is an online, fair & ecological gift shop. Our product offerings come primarily from our love for the nerdiness in the world such as STEM, pop culture and puns.
We always work with small-scale manufacturers who share both our passion for STEM and our ethical values. You can find out more about our great suppliers on the product pages.
Our products
Yes, ethical production is and will remain the most important condition for products to be in our virtual store.
This includes: no child labor, a living wage (since a minimum wage is not always living), limitation on and compensation for overtime, a safe workplace, no discrimination, etc.
Both we and our suppliers are doing our best to offer as many ecological products as possible, and for our biggest suppliers (Nina Designs and Cognitive Surplus) this is succeeding well. Nina Designs' production in Thailand, meanwhile, works exclusively with recycled silver; in Bali, it is as much as possible for now. Cognitive Surplus works largely with recycled materials such as recycled canvas and recycled paper, further with sustainable materials such as glass, ceramics and stainless steel.
For other suppliers such as I Heart Guts, the ecological aspect is often a bit more difficult. Producing ecological plushies is currently not (yet) obvious
But since their products are nevertheless ethically produced and they make a huge effort to make fair, positive and inclusive products of we would also like to support them and offer their products in our webshop.
Maintenance jewellery
When you are not wearing silver, it is best to store it dry and as airtight as possible (not so charming but very effective against oxidation is a plastic ziplock bag).
When your silver turns black, you can wipe it clean with a flannel cloth, possibly with a damp cloth with a little ecological dish soap or with
silver polish.
Silver is a soft metal, it will not break easily (just be careful with thin welds) but will deform easily in thin places.
Like silver, bronze will eventually darken, although most of our bronze jewellery contain a ceramic coating to prevent/delay oxidation. Bronze that oxidizes darkens in color which gives the metal a beautiful, antique touch. Normally, darkening happens evenly, but cosmetics or chemicals can cause other (including green) effects.
When your bronze gets darker, you can wipe it clean with a flannel cloth, possibly with a damp cloth with a little ecological detergent.
Bronze is a hard metal, it will not bend easily but rather break when a lot of force is applied to it.
