People have been finding patterns and shapes in the stars for thousands of years, using them to tell stories and find their way at night. In 1922, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) formalized a list of 88 "official" constellations in the night sky based on Ptolemy's list of Greek constellations (c. 2nd century), and you can see them all in this design! You can use the socks as a map to guide you on a night journey, just as people have done for millennia. But maybe also bring a regular map or your phone, just in case. ;-)
